Load Bank Testing- Essential Generator Maintenance

Chances are you don’t operate your generator at full power and full temperature all the time. In fact, your generator may not be used frequently or only run light loads throughout the year leading you to believe it’s in fine shape.  Is it in need of repair?

Plus, there’s that saying- “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

The truth is, generators need to be run at 60 – 80 % load for 3 key reasons: to ensure reliable operation, to prevent ‘wet stacking,’ and to extend the generator’s engine life.

Whether your generator is diesel or gaseous fuel-driven, and whether it is run lightly loaded or never loaded at all, most manufacturers agree generator load testing is a must to extend your engine’s life.

At Onward Generator Maintenance Solutions, we offer generator load testing as a separate service.

We can also structure it into a service contract to make it part of your regular maintenance on your power systems. Generator load testing is not intrusive in any way. With this service, we provide a full report of the generator output readings for: voltages, amperages, KW amounts, and more.

At Onward Generator Maintenance Solutions, we understand the value of reliability and longevity. Contact our generator experts today to schedule your load bank test and ensure the longevity of your generator.

When we do a load test it will include:

· A visual inspection of the engine, generator and control unit.

· A 2 hour 100% load test, this will ensure all carbon and contaminates are cleaned out of the engine, and prove the unit is in good working order for the next job.

· During this time we will take temperature readings of the oil, coolant, intake and exhaust manifolds, thermal images of the generator to make sure there are no hot spots from dirt or other contaminates, and of the bearing to ensure it is not failing.

Before choosing a service provider, ask yourself:

 1. Is the company you’re considering worthy of a relationship with you?

Many so-called generator service companies are simply mechanics that service the engine and have no understanding of the generator end of the gen-set or the function of the switch gear and so they neglect both and do not maintain them. In the short term, these companies rely on lower rates as they do not invest in technician training or proper tools. So, beware: these companies have no reputation to maintain, and will cut and run at the first sign of trouble.

On the other hand, OnWard Generator Maintenance Solutions is dedicated to the maintenance and repair of the generator. There is not an industry or make of generator that we will not service. We service gen-sets on farms, in hospitals, long term care facilities, wastewater treatment plants and the oil and gas industry.

Do They Follow a Logical Process

Do they follow a logical service routine that demonstrates their ability to service your gen-set?

OnWard Generator Service follows the standby generator inspection guidelines of the Canadian Standards Association’s Section 282 – Emergency electrical power supply for buildings. Our technicians are trained to use this guideline to service all generators providing a methodical, step-by-step instruction list to run a preventative maintenance program on your generator.

Tuned for cost efficiency

If you do have to run your generator, of course you would want it to run as efficiently as possible. Generator maintenance tasks help your generator to reach its highest efficient potential.

Overall, generator maintenance will help to keep your generator in mint condition for years to come. This in turn, will save you time and money.
